Frequently asked questions

How much tax do you pay on crypto gains in Germany?

If you sell crypto within one year of buying, the gain is a private sale under Sec. 23 German Income Tax Act, taxed at your personal rate of up to 45 percent plus solidarity surcharge. If all gains of a year stay below the 1,000 euro exemption limit, no tax is due. After a holding period of more than one year, the sale is completely tax-free.

How are staking and lending taxed?

Staking rewards and lending interest are other income under Sec. 22 No. 3 German Income Tax Act, valued at market price on receipt and taxed at your personal rate. Up to 256 euros per year remains tax-free. Selling the rewards later is a separate private sale with its own one-year holding period.

What does this calculator cover?

The calculator applies the German rules: holding periods, exemption limits and the income tax scale. It gives you a solid estimate, but does not replace individual advice for special cases such as DeFi protocols, incomplete histories, business assets or relocation abroad.
